Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Doesn't the above shoe remind you of Italian Rainbow Cookies? Recognize the shoe?  Well it ain't Jeffrey Campbell!  The one below however is:

The shoe in the first photograph was originally designed by Salvatore Ferragamo in 1938 created for Judy Garland. They are pretty iconic and are a fixture in most fashion history books.  The shoes were reissued in 2010 as a limited edition.  So I was very surprised and excited to see these on solestruck.com as part of Jeffrey Campbell's new line or should I say "new". 

The Jeffrey Campbell version is apropriately titled "Salvatore" and retails for $185.  A pretty penny,  but considering the odds of owning the original 1938 version are the same as finding a vintage Birkin for $2 at the Goodwill, I definitely feel it's something worth snatching up while you have the chance (speaking of which they are already sold out on solestruck!).

Having been born in the 70s and an adolescent during the 90s I have a fondness for chunky shoes, be it Docs or platforms,and the more sculptural the better.  So Jeffrey Campbell has me in a pretty bad state of want with his Ferragamo and 1970s knock-offs.  If I bought any it would be in a shameless attempt to pass them off as vintage.



Meditative Vintage

Yes I did get the memo about color and pattern being hot for Spring/Summer but really I wanted to put the shop into a meditative state first.... breathe it in deeply....relaxing isn't it?  Besides for a gal that wears a lot of black, creams and taupe are pretty bold colors for me...I mean to actually reflect light this summer instead of absorb it?  It's kind of a nutty concept to me.

Duck Hunting

I am big fan of graphic design, combine it with vintage clothing and you have what is at the top of my vintage buying list.  I am completely in awe and in love w/ the above 1970s outfit by designer Michaele Vollbrach. I must have been in a coma last week when it was a available for auction.  I guess it was for the best I missed it because both pieces sold for quite the pretty penny, but still a deal in my opinion.

Libidos,Buyagra and Swingsets

I am suppose to be shopping today for the shop, but really I've lost my urge too....I've lost my shopping libido.  I've been like this for over a month now, I'm thinking all the driving I do in order to find things is what is getting to me, maybe if someone else did the driving I would be better.  My husband says I need some "Buy-agra"....I think he thinks himself rather witty now for coming up with that one.

Those swinger (or mate-bartering) books are a riot, you think my husband is trying to tell me something?  What is amusing for me is that my husband is a very quiet man, kind of conservative, talking about sex in public makes him blush(complete opposite of me).  So when he came back with these I thought he had suffered a brain aneurysm mid thrift, especially considering the woman he had to pay is a close family friend and would be aware of his deviant shopping habits and armed with this knowledge our squeaky clean reputation in town would be on the fast track down the crapper. He assured me though at 82 years old our friend would not pay any attention or even would know what he purchased....but unbeknownst to him he failed to anticipate I would blog about it.  I guess I should add so he doesn't divorce me that all the books are for sale, that had been the motive of his purchase all along though it was fun to think for moment that just maybe my husband had kinky side.

What She Wore: Annabel

                                                          

Truth be told when I was told at least one of my twins would be a girl I was SO relieved.  When my sister told me she was expecting a little boy I groaned.  And it is totally for a superficial reason and the reason being in my opinion girls are more fun to dress and shop for.  Now my little man does have his share of  mini 1950s Cowichans and Davy Crockett style ensembles, but by far shopping for and dressing Miss Annabel has been the most satisfying, especially when it has come to baby vintage.  Case in point, how cute are those little boots? 

Unfortunately just two hours after these photos were taken  Annabel started to get really sick. Sick to the point where I thought the outfit would need to be burned if you get my drift, yes gross.  She creates a light anywhere she goes, her laughter and smile very infectious breaking even the most jaded person. So of course the opposite applies as well, when she isn't smiling no one else is either. Even her brother has been super nice to her and he normally enjoys making a sport of bullying her. So today as was yesterday is being spent with my sick little girl fused to me on the couch, poor baby:(

I see a red dress and well.....

Pretty pleased with last night's shop update. Yes it's black but I feel like I've been seeing nothing but red ever since Christmas and with Valentine's Day soon after it feels like the color monopolizes a good portion of the year.  So time to bury it and cleanse the visual palette and what is more appropriate to do that with than some black silk mourning style clothes.  

Plus with Spring fast approaching I personally feel I can only get away with an all black updates for so much longer. And I do loves me my all black updates.

Tamara Lempicka

I've been obsessing a bit over Tamara Lempicka lately, the first "glamorous artist". Though familiar with her work for years I really didn't know much of her life and wasn't prompted to until I read a quote by her regarding her "Self-Portrait".  It depicts her driving a green Bugatti, when in fact in real life she drived a yellow Renault.  When asked about this she responded, "What is important is I dressed like the car and the car dressed like me".   And with that answer I totally got her and a new appreciation and perspective was gained.
