A Poncho Color

Yes I've been waiting all season to write that title, I amuse very easily. Ponchos are one of my favorite and definite autumn must haves. Perfect for getting cozy on hayrides and a great way to experiment w/ patterns and colors.

Images above are a few pieces that will be ending up in the shop rather soon so long as they do not sell out of my other store first.  My favorite (the last image) which is a 1930s - 40s blanket cape will be posted to the shop some time today.

Unearthing Wonderland

Over the weekend the babes and I went hiking.  After going over the photos from the day it looks as if we may have unknowingly took a trip into Wonderland, which is how it works I suppose.  With a white cat standing in for the rabbit(not pictured) and even a rabbit hole.  I can't help think the antique pottery shards are evidence of a certain tea party from a century prior, that we were most definitely late for.

Start them Young

ABC, Costume & Textiles from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art

Petit-Connoisseur : Fashion

Straight from the twin's personal library, two books suggestions for those of you w/ budding fashionistas(or fashion misters) in your lives.  The first, ABC Costume and Textile book being my favorite, focusing more on "vintage" examples of clothing and I just love museum issued books.  Teaching children their ABC's in a fashion relevant manner, how can you go wrong. And even if I didn't have children I would probably still own this book.

The second, Petite-Connoisseur: Fashion by Karen Salmanson. Is a cute little board book w/ darling graphics which highlights things like Jimmy Chou shoes and basic fashion terminology. It is actually part of a series, the second being Petit Connoisseur: Art which we also have.

WARNING: Having been brought up in my shop and w/ these books my two year old daughter has a serious shoe addiction, so proceed w/ caution. Maybe balance fashion exposure w/ a couple of Suze Orman books, like The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous and Broke;)

Double Take

The Church of Vintage
Oscar de la Renta Fall 2010

The first coat is a coat I sold last year, beautiful awe evoking 1960s w/ fox trimmed hem. So I was really amused when I saw the second coat from Oscar de la Renta's Fall 2010 collection. Don't you just love when the present catches up to the past?

Summer Sojourn

Not sure what she's doing(yoga? Interpretive dance?) Just know this happens often
and randomly.

Jack busted in the dislpays
A fox?  It did have a foxy attitude though and came right up to us

It's amazing how quickly time can escape you. The past week saw my oldest going back to school and Summer coming to an end unofficially, but really might as well be official.  Most summer activities in these parts come to a screaching halt as soon as the sun sets on Labor Day.  Like our local lake, no more swimming now until Memorial Day...depressing.

So being the procrastinars that we are, last weekend we got our end of summer hustle on and drove all over Southern New Jersey, consolidating as much summer into a weekend that the space time continuum would permit. By the time 48 hrs was up we had hit 2 beaches, a boardwalk, a waterpark, a lake and a BBQ.  It was like waking up on Christmas Eve and realizing you hadn't bought any presents yet. We were desperate crazy people last weekend.

This weekend I am looking forward to taking it easy a little bit, mostly will stay in and work on the house. Sunday though I'll be heading over to The Arts, Music & Antiques Festival , I thought I was going to participate in it this year but I opted to attend leisurely instead.  Next year though I'll most definitely be a vendor.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Behind the Velvet Ropes

Does anyone remember that show? Back when the Style Network actually had shows about fashion.

I am not sure what it is about host Lauren Ezersky that I love, maybe it's her offbeat style and personality or maybe that crazy Alexandra Cabot hair.  I do know however I don't get phased by celebrity very often, I mean I hung out with Joey Ramone once and thought nothing of it.  BUT when I ran into Lauren in NYC many years ago I was struck dumb, gobblity-gook came out of mouth, I choked...  I wanted to say just the right thing that would make her think I was so "FAH-bulous" that she would want to be my best friend and take me behind the scenes at all the best fashion shows....yeah....didn't quite work out that way, apparently my imagination doesn't translate well into reality.

Below isn't a clip from Behind the Velvet Ropes, but is one of my favorite interviews she did with Bestey Johnson. Doesn't Betsey's decor make you swoony and schizophrenic all at the same time? Love it.

Don't know about you, but I'm feeling like starting a letter writing campaign to the Stle Network to bring the fashion back! I want my Velvet Ropes and Fashion File back!
